Body of Water

“Created for London-based swimwear brand Youswim, the film follows Dutch-Canadian photographer Theodora van Duin who, having grown up swimming in the Canadian Rockies, has transferred her aquatic explorations to the lochs and rivers near her home in Glasgow.

The first release from Youswim series Swim Rituals, the film throws a cinematic lens on the ritualistic potential contained within water, and the physical and emotional connection we can harness by engaging with it. Against the awe-inspiring landscape of rural Scotland, Theodora shares the profound impact swimming has on her mental wellbeing, as a means of managing her mental health and chronic health conditions.

Exploring Scotland's influence on Thea’s relationship with water, Body of Water hones in on her year-round search for swimming locations, and how the inclusivity of the cold swimming community enabled her to transcend her insecurities. Succumbing to the changeability of the elements and the emotions that arise within her, she finds herself able to be present in her own body, surrounded by the wildness of nature.”
